Image via WikipediaIn an increasingly knowledge-driven economy, the key economic resources underlying wealth production are no longer based on competitive advantages in access to and use of land, labor and/or capital, but relate to access to and use of new or original intangible assets, including Intellectual Property (IP). Thus, there is a greater focus on stimulating innovation and improving technology across different sectors, with object of acquiring essential IP assets. However, there exists a great gap between the ones generating the IP assets and the ones protecting them. This largely stems from the limited understanding of the IP laws and the corresponding issues surrounding IP rights.
India is projected as the hub of knowledge-driven activity in the near future that bridges these yawing gaps, which includes enabling and protecting innovation, providing support for strategic decisions, focusing research activity and so on. Currently, it is estimated that about 1200 IP professionals are involved in such activities, most of who are not legal professionals, and provide support to firms across the globe. This number is expected to grow by at least ten-fold within the next two years, given the success of such work and the current demand. Several factors contribute to this glowing outlook, some of which include strong technical foundation and language skills.
Currently, the training of the work force totally depends on whatever is provided on-the-job.This puts extra pressure on the incumbent, thus making it difficult to attain one’s peak potential. Furthermore, the nature of training is such that the trainee becomes ‘silo-ed’ into one specific task, and is largely unable to diversify his/her abilities.
Xellect IP Solutions has been well aware of these growing demands. To meet the demands, Xellect IP Solutions is collaborating with several national and international partners to develop and provide a Professional Certificate Course on Intellectual Property Rights, with a greater focus on Patents Search, Analysis, Preparation & Prosecution.
